From 8 December 2021 to 2 October 2022 Lucca hosts in the spaces of the beautiful Cavallerizza di Piazzale Verdi an exceptional exhibition that illustrates, through some seventeenth-century masterpieces, the role of light in painting by Caravaggio, the first director of the history of art, up to Pietro Paolini, Lucca protagonist of the most important aesthetic themes of the new naturalistic school.

Of Caravaggio one can admire in particular the Boy who cleans a fruit , a work characterized by soft and reassuring light, painted during the Roman debut, in the mid-nineties of the sixteenth century.

" The exhibition starts from Caravaggio's revolution, indicative, with the presence of a very remarkable work such as Cavadenti, on which, by style and genre, Paolini certainly had to reflect, testifying to the most integral coherence among the painters of light ". Vittorio Sgarbi
